The Accident Scene
The accident occurred on July 13, 2017, in the parking lot of a Publix Super Market. At about 10:30 p.m., Celavie Duclos backed her minivan out of a parking spot and into two cars, one of which belonged to Josephine Bogovich. Bogovich was loading groceries into her car when Duclos struck her vehicle and dragged her under the minivan for a significant period of time. According to Duclos, the car sped up and her brakes would not work. She was not aware that she had struck another person until her 16-year-old son told her there was someone under the car.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office was called on to investigate the accident. Their investigator found that Duclos’s claims of equipment failure were unfounded. The other results of the investigation, however, found no criminal acts on the part of Duclos and labeled the accident an excusable homicide.
